With the recent news that Rotorua’s asthma hospitalisation rates are among the country’s highest it’s important to be aware of the key services around asthma support and management available to whanau and in particular tamariki.
Korowai Aroha’s Asthma Service is a free community service that provides education, support, information and resources about asthma and other breathing (respiratory) conditions. This service is run from Korowai Aroha’s clinic on Hinemoa Street and is led by Registered Nurse Noelene Rapana.
With a goal to improving health, the main aim of the asthma service is to support individuals and their family/whanau to manage asthma on their own with support, increase community understanding about asthma and reduce the number of asthma hospital admissions. This service is available free to Rotorua residents by clinic appointment or home visits.
Group education sessions are also available and are open to schools and kaumatua groups.
